These pictures show a kitchen as it's being installed. Finish
work that remains to be completed at the time of photography includes
granite counters, lighting, and the finishing faux bois paint
work on the refrigerator/pantry armoire.
Built as an elegant barn-like extension to an antique stone house,
it features a greenhouse alcove that overlooks the terrace and swimming
pool. The owners wanted the kitchen to look like fine furniture, and
offer a mix of styles and finishes that allude to furniture in the
rest of the house. Avid cooks and frequent hosts, the couple wanted
plenty of storage for tools, china, linens, and foodstuffs. There
are two SubZero refrigerators in this space; one is hidden in a huge
armoire that also holds a hidden pull-out pantry. The other refrigerator,
located in the main cooking area, features panels and drawer fronts
that match the rest of the cooking area's painted cabinetry. Next
to it are basket drawers for root vegetable storage. All of the upper
cabinets feature handmade glass fronts in a double height arrangement
to take advantage of the great ceiling height of the room. Two matching
sinks and dishwashers flank the black enameled La Cornue range from
France, which acts a focal point for the main kitchen wall, centered
between new arched windows, and capped by a handmade plaster hood.
In the picture at right you can see one of the two teak butcher block
counters, the center curved granite counter has yet to be installed.
A custom-made red and green "L" shaped china closet painted in folk
art style holds several dinner services and linens in the lower drawers.
All of the cabinetry was made by Stefan Wilhelm, St Martins Lane Cabinetry,
and designed either by Deborah Krasner, or in a collaboration between
Krasner and Wilhelm. Range hood, windows, and renovation by Peter
Zimmerman, Architects, Berwyn, PA.

Stefan Wilhelm is installing the other teak butcher block. One
of the SubZero refrigerators is behind him, to the right are
a stack of Hafele's rattan storage baskets for root vegetables.

This china closet turns a corner, and is fitted with interior
lights behind each shelf. Deborah Krasner did faux bois
painting in shades of red and green.
